Summary and Objective

FOODRUS (“An innovative collaborative circular food system to reduce food waste and losses in the agri-food chain”) was an EU-funded project aiming to tackle food loss and waste by building more resilient and sustainable local/regional food systems. It combined technological, social, organisational and policy-related approaches to prevent and reduce FLW across the agri-food chain, involving a wide range of actors from producers to consumers.

A core element of the project was the testing and demonstration of solutions in real contexts (pilots and broader regional collaboration). The project recognises valuable results particularly around social actions for behavioural change and the development/application of assessment methodologies (e.g., circularity-related approaches), while noting that exploitation of many innovations may occur after the project lifetime.

What is FEBEA's role in the project

FEBEA’s contribution would sit on the stakeholder engagement, network-building, and “ethical/sustainable finance” dimensions, helping connect project outputs with values-driven finance and civil-society actors relevant to scaling solutions.

More concretely, FEBEA would be positioned to support dissemination and uptake by linking FOODRUS results to its European network, helping identify relevant financial stakeholders, and contributing to discussions on the conditions needed for replication and longer-term impact (which the review report flags as an important area to strengthen beyond the project end).
