The main objective of SOFIGREEN is to support the greening of processes and activities of Social and Solidarity Economy Enterprises (SSEEs) by enhancing their investment readiness, their access to finance and their multi-stakeholder (mainstream SMEs, research, public authorities, etc.) and multi-level (local, regional cross-border) collaborations. Accordingly, the project clusters a large variety of organisations, from Social Finance intermediaries to philanthropic foundations, to create an ecosystem in which knowledge and investment opportunities are matched with the  needs of SMEs in the Social Economy. Thus, the project not only intends to organise tailor-made courses to instruct SSEEs on capacity-building methods, but it will also create its own capacity-building package to identify the challenges these enterprises face in greening their activities, in order to, ultimately, create innovative financing instruments designed by Social Finance organisations and coordinated by EU-wide social economy networks.

Also, to increase the financing opportunities for SSEEs enterprises and facilitate the exchange of best practices, the project will launch a European Venture Philanthropy Fund, connecting local funds among each other and with financial intermediaries across borders to always guarantee the most adapted funding solution to SSEEs.

The project focuses on three European leader regions in Social Economy: Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes in France, Southern Italy and Andalucia in Spain.

What is FEBEA’s role in this project

The FEBEA members collaborating in the project are Fondazione di Comunità di Messina (IT) as a coordinator of the project, Banca Etica (IT & SP) and La Nef (FR).
FEBEA is mostly working on WP5 (co-design of financial instruments) and will capitalise on its expertise to engineer the European Venture Philanthropy Fund and report important lessons learnt and recommendations to European decision-makers in a policy paper at the end of the project. Also, the Federation collaborates with its members, Banca Etica and La Nef, in designing the project’s capacity-building package for the SSEEs.
